EATING BY THE BOOK - Sesson 3

Today we completed the Eating By The Book series. The focus of today's lesson was on the relationship of fat and muscle. Five pounds of fat takes up considerably more room than five pounds of muscle. This is why we should measure our results with a tape measure, not the bathroom scales. Losing weight and getting healthy is not about the pounds, but about inches. If you lose 10 pounds of fat, yet gain 7 pounds of muscle, you only net a 3 pound loss. With the reduction of excessive fat from your body you are slowly "inching" away from become a heart-disease statistic.

The sin of neglecting the body and out-of-control eating is not a new issue. We looked at several references in scripture where obesity was mentioned. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. God gave them to us. If we desire to fulfill God's fullest purpose and potential for our lives we must do, as Paul said, "But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified." 1 Corinthians 9:27

Start eating on purpose and keeping your body under control by 1) Eating less FAT (50 grams / day); 2) Increasing the physical activity in your life; 3) Stop measuring the results with a scale. Instead use a tape measure. And...
"Put a knife to your neck if you are a man who is given to much eating." Proverbs 23:2 (NLV)
In other words, when it comes to food and drink, kiss gluttony (excessive indulgence) good-by!

Next week we begin the series: "Let Us Pray"

During the worship service today, our guest speaker Mark Foley, President of the University of Mobile, presented a video that related his love of flying to 4 principles of discipleship. If you didn't see it, I think you will enjoy it. Needless to say, I did.
